LOCATION
Raffles Meradhoo is located the middle of the gorgeous Gaafu Alifu Atoll, known for its close proximity to the equator and abundance of sea turtles, in the farthest reaches of the Maldives. Meradhoo's distance from the capital makes it too far for a comfortable sea plane transfer. Instead, guests take a 50-minute domestic flight from Malé to Kaadedhdhoo airport, followed by a 10-minute speedboat transfer to the island.
ACCOMMODATION
Entering the villas, 21 of which are on the island, feels like arriving at a friend's beautifully curated home. Each with private swimming pool (big enough to do laps in) and an array of places to relax – sun loungers, a cabana, a swinging day bed, as well as an outdoor sofa and dining area. Interiors feature four-poster beds, navy silks, duck egg blues and jaunty nautical stripes.
All rooms have yoga mats, flip flops and beach bags, and a choice of eco-luxe toiletries (lavender or lemongrass)
FACILITIES
There are two swimming pools (one on the island and one at the water villa complex) and a resident marine biologist available for complimentary tours of the house reef. Also complimentary are kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and snorkelling gear (jet skis and seabobs are available for a fee). Above water, there's an impressive 24-hour glass-fronted gym and free daily yoga. At the chic overwater spa, Balinese therapists perform a signature massage that starts with the hum of a Tibetan singing bowl and ends with warm coconut oil being poured onto the 'third eye' to soothe the mind and promote sleep.

Who For?
Small and classy, Raffles' new-old ambiance feels like a refreshing change from the ever bling-ier Maldives openings of late. While this is resort is decidedly grown up, well-behaved children are certainly welcome.
